On my way

My Friends....as you know 2010 brought a devastating earthquake to Haiti.  It transformed Haiti; an already impoverished country, into one akin to a 3 legged stool with one leg missing.  That's where we come in.

The newly established Hanger Ivan R Sabel Foundation founded its first mission; setting up a functioning prosthetic clinic in Deschapelles, Haiti on the campus of HAS...Hospital Albert Schweitzer.

In October of 2010 I ventured here on my first mission trip.  Within my first week cholera struck Haiti like a migraine headache.  It crippled an already crippled country....one more leg knocked out of that stool.  My partner clinician flew home.

To the right you will notice a few links.  One is from my blog from that trip in 2010.  To bring you up to speed, I think the blog is worth the read.  I ask you to keep in mind, that particular blog was thumbed exclusively from a 2010 Blackberry.

I would wake each morning from the bed you see in some closing shots, and check my BB...carefully perched on the window sill near my bed....very close to the rooster that said hello each morning....to see if my post went out smoothly.  The tin roofs made indoor signals challenging.

The slide show above also serves as a review in pictures of that 2 week adventure.  The slideshow does not seem to appear or play on tablets...use a computer.   I hope to be able to post here daily.

The Sabel Foundation is no longer involved in the clinic.  The need has not gone away.  The clinic is managed by long time supporter, Medi.  They continue to push for sustainability as well as attempting to expand services closer to the heart of Haiti, Port au Prince.

Please feel free to post comments.  I don't take traveling to a 3rd world country lightly.  I'd be foolish if I wasn't a bit anxious. Still, I have hope it will make for a grand adventure.
