I am going to miss these buggers while I am away. Anna commented the other day that she'd like to send some things down to Haiti someday. I know some friends from the town soccer club raise money for soccer balls and clothes. Still, it is nice to hear that she thinks that way.
If history is any sign of what is to come, I just took my last hot shower for the next 2 wks. The dance around the trickle of water that only flows only for 30min 3x/day will be the routine.
It is not definite, but I believe I am staying at HAS as last time, just in a different building, I think. I do hope to be able to reconnect with the technicians I came to know last time.
I don't know if the past will simply come back in a wave. The site. The smells. The beggers near you at every turn. "Give me 1 dollar." My internal monologue runs into to overdrive at times like these. Impressive that they learn this phrase at such a young age. Persistent little chaps. Why are they only asking for 1.
Blanc! Blanc! White people are clearly the minority there. Walking down the street in 2010, with our interpreter, Yvener. I could hear people shouting, "Blanc! blanc!" But I could hear something else. I asked Yvener what the word was that some of them were using in addition to blanc. He is it "chov". He said it means bald. Blad white.
See you guys in Haiti.
Chov Blanc
